5/4/20 BABY MUSIC JAM EPISODE 7 via Facebook Live for our 7th virtual Baby Music Jam. In the Hawaiian language, "E Komo Mai" means "Welcome" and "Come In" and that's the greeting we gave each other. I had a flower lei, sea shell necklace and kukui nut lei for everyone and we sang "Aloha Aloha Aloha", took a deep breath, and visited Hawaii for the morning! When we arrived in Hawaii, we had breakfast of papaya with calamansi and gave a great congratulations to Aiza, Kevin, Kelsey and Nana on their new baby in the family. We looked at some homemade stamps and cards with positive messages. Then we clapped and sang "Hello Friends" and then a light shower rained on us as we sang "Itsy Bitsy Spider" in our three voices. After the rain, the sun came out and we saw a rainbow and learned our colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. We decided to take the bus to the beach and sang "Wheels on the Bus" with some animal friends and then arrived at the beach and hopped into the ocean to swim. There was an elevator going to the bottom of the sea, which we all fit in and sang "Let's Go Riding in an Elevator" and then we were at the very bottom of the ocean. What did we see there? Fish! Many beautiful, different colored fish and then we danced the hula and sang "Hukilau". We practiced some French and sang "Petit Poisson", danced "Hokey Pokey" and then created our pizza at the depths of the sea. Toppings today were octopus (thanks, Tioma!), papaya and duck!

4/27/20 BABY MUSIC JAM EPISODE 6 via Facebook Live for our 6th virtual Baby Music Jam! We learned about a new instrument, the den-den daiko, a Japanese drum, tuned our ukuleles, and shook our shakers. Each day we have the opportunity to make music and we can start with the instruments on our bodies, our hands, by clapping and singing "Hello Friends". Our three spider voices came out with "Itsy Bitsy Spider" in normal, big and hairy, and itty bitty high voices. Then we made some percussion music with our shakers and sang, "We Shake Our Shakers Together" and then started to pack for our big trip to Birthday Island! Since today was baking day, we packed our chef's hat, apron, baking cake ingredients (dates, water, almond butter, baking soda) and utensils (bowl, measuring cups, whisk, pan) and our ukulele instrument. Then we took a deep breath on the count of three 1...2...3... and we all fit in our canoe and started to row to Birthday Island with "Row Row Your Boat". We strummed and paddled quickly passed the rapids and slowed down when we approached the Island. There, we put all our ingredients for date cake in the bowl, preheated our oven to 350 degrees and while our cake baked, we practiced our Spanish and sang "Dos Parajitos Verdes", who flew in from Cuba, and "Buenos Dias". Ding, the timer for the cake went off and we took it out of the oven and set it out to cool. While we waited for the cake to cool off, we sang, "Patty Cake" and practiced our letters with B for Baby, M for Mommy, D for Daddy and G for Grandma and Grandpa. Then we sang "If I Knew You Were Coming, I'd Have Baked a Cake" and we were ready to sing "Happy Birthday" and light the candles. The cake turned out beautifully and we first sang "Happy Birthday" to Mason who celebrated his birthday today and then we sang "Happy Birthday" to all our friends who recently celebrated a birthday or who will celebrate this week (Caleb, Luna, Kamron!). Then we sang "Wheels on the Bus" with Animals and taught them the colors so now the tiger knows orange, the rooster knows brown, the hippo knows purple, the kangaroo knows red, the porcupine knows pink, the sheep knows green, and the chick knows yellow. "Thanks, kids!" say our animal friends! We sang "If You're Happy and You Know It With a Twist" by clapping, being a train and shouting out "Today Is Great!" We then made a pizza with toppings of chips (Clayton), strawberries fraises (Kira), cheese (Kip), noodles (Mika), mango (Panchita), Red, the firetruck (Preston). Can we all say Yu-Mmy!

HEALTHY DATE CAKE RECIPE
1. Grease 8 inch pan and preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In the blender, mix up 1 cup pitted Medjool dates, 1/2 cup water, 1 cup almond butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 3/4 teaspoon baking soda.
3. Put the batter in the pan and pop in the oven for 25 minutes. Cool and eat!

4/20/20 BABY MUSIC JAM EPISODE 5 via Facebook Live for our 5th virtual Baby Music Jam!  https://www.facebook.com/babyporcupine/videos/592897717986622/

We played the instruments on our bodies, our hands, and clapped & sang "Hello Friends" and then Itsy Bitsy Spider in our three voices. Then onto our space ship for our voyage across the universe as we sang "Zoom zoom zoom". All the stars surrounded us as we sang "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and then we looked down at Earth and saw Argentina and sang "Dos Parajitos", then saw Italy and sang "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" in italiano "Testa, Spalle, Genochi, Piedi, Ochi, Nazo, Bocha". We peered down at France from our space ship and sang "Frere Jacques" and then saw Israel down below and sang one to ten "achad, schtime, shalosh, arba, chamesh, shesh, sheva, shmonay, tesha, eser".  We sang "Wheels on the Bus with Animals" and then made a pizza that is out of this world with kale (Aryav), pepperoni (Elodie and Lulu), frosting (Mei), pineapple (Aanik), and lollypop (Ailis and Elena)!

4/13/20 BABY MUSIC JAM EPISODE 4 via Facebook Live for our 4th virtual Baby Music Jam! We played the instruments on our bodies, our hands, and clapped & sang "Hello Friends" and then "Good Morning" and "Buenos Dias". Puppy visited us and we sang "When Animals Wake Up" and sang good morning to dogs, cats, sheep and cows. We practiced washing our faces, brushing our teeth and eating our breakfast with the song, "This is the Way" and then built our vocabulary with "Roly Poly" (up/down, close/far, fast/slow) and "Peas Porridge Hot". We counted with "10 Little Raindrops" and then learned French with "Wheels on the Bus" with fruit. Today we learned banane, peche, melon, fraise, poire, and pomme. Dos Parajitos Verdes flew in from Argentina and we spoke Spanish with them and then the spiders came out and we sang "Itsy Bitsy Spider" in our regular, big & hairy and high itty bitty voices and then were sure to close our mouths so that the spiders didn't crawl in when we sang "Open Shut Them". We learned our body parts and practiced right from left with "Hokey Pokey" (this week our funny extra body part was our elbow!), we sang in Japanese with "Attama, Katta, Hiza, Po" and then made a beautiful pizza pie with toppings of ice cream (danke, Yuna), pineapple (thanks, Hudson), pepperoni (thank you, Caleb) and socks in Bulgarian, "chorapee", thank you, David!

4/6/20 BABY MUSIC JAM EPISODE 3 via Facebook Live for our 3rd virtual Baby Music Jam! More kiddos are playing their ukuleles at our Baby Music Jams! Yay!! All instruments are welcome. We clapped & sang "Hello Friends" and then got our spiders out for "Itsy Bitsy Spider" in our normal, big and hairy, and little itty bitty voices. We learned a new song from 1950, sung by Eileen Barton, "If I Knew You Were Coming' Id've Baked A Cake". Here are the words for you to learn (good with clapping):

If I Knew You Were Coming' Id've Baked A Cake,
Baked A Cake, Baked A Cake,
If I Knew You Were Coming' Id've Baked A Cake,

Baked A Cake, Baked A Cake,
How-Ja Do, How-Ja Do, How-Ja Do

Since I knew we were getting together, I baked a cake, took it out of the oven, lit the candles and we sung "Happy Birthday" to our friend, Ailis, who was celebrating her birthday. She blew out all the candles! Then we sang "Happy Birthday" to all our friends who have had birthdays during this time when we've all been at home. To Cosi, David, Amy, Vicente, Hazel, Sachi, and all our Friends, Happy Birthday! Dos Parajitos Verdes came flying in from Spain and we sang their song and "Buenos Dias". We sang "Wheels on the Bus" with unicorn (rainbow), lion (roar), mermaid (splish splish splash), duck (quack), porcupine ("I Love You"), banana ("Moz, moz, moz", which is banana if Farsi), and turtle (blub blub blub). Onto practicing Japanese with "Attama, Katta, Hiza, Po" and "Oide Oide Panda" (panda = "panda", rabbit = "usagi", koala = "koara"). Then Zahari, our zebra buddy, sang 1-10 in French and 1-10 in Italian with us and we danced Hokey Pokey and this week, the funny body part we included was our ears! We made a Pizza with cheese, cheese, and more cheese, and some salami. Thanks, Tate, Ailis, Luna, and River for the toppings! We learned about Opa Kasse from River, which means grandpa cheese in Dutch, and we added some gouda too.

3/30/20 BABY MUSIC JAM EPISODE 2 via Facebook Live for our second virtual Baby Music Jam! We used the instrument on our body, our hands, and clapped & sang "Hello Friends" and then belted out "Itsy Bitsy Spiders" in our three voices. We played the ukulele and brought out the sun by singing "You Are My Sunshine" and then practiced Spanish by singing "Buenos Dias". We were surprised with the animals who joined us on the bus with "Wheels on the Bus" and then we sang in Japanese "Oide Oide Panda". I tested out my pizza phone to make sure it worked for "Five Little Penguins" and then we learned counting. Next, Zebra Zahari joined us and we counted 1-10 in French. We all counted 1-2-3 and jumped into the same boat for "Row Row Your Boat" and played with tempo as we rowed faster and faster and then s-l-o-w. We jumped out of the boat into the sea and met the underwater animals for "Wheels on the Bus Underwater". It was amazing; we were able to breathe and swim under the waves and danced "Hokey Pokey" and made our communal pizza with toppings of blue cheese (Iyansa's pick), lasagna (Emi & Will's choice), and bell pepper (Preston's idea)!

We clapped our hands and sang, "Hello Friends" and jumped right into singing in Japanese with "Atama, Katta, Hiza, Po" and "Oide Oide Panda". It is amazing to see the children learning nihongo! I ask them, "How do you say 'head' in Japanese? Nihongo de?" and the kiddos respond, "Atama!" "How do you say 'shoulders' in Japanese? Nihongo de?" and the children call out, "Katta!" and we continue with the knees, eyes, nose and mouth, which our community now know how to say in Japanese. Repetition and singing are remarkable ways to learn a foreign language.  We practiced Spanish with "Dos Parajitos Verdes" who flew in from Costa Rica and then "Buenos Dias". We read and sang "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" =) The melody is fantastic and you can have "sing conversations" with your little ones with whatever words or vocabulary you see. On the way to school in the morning, we'll sometimes have an exchange like this,

--"Houses, Houses, What do you see?"
--"I see a Big Tree looking back at Me."
--"Big Tree, Big Tree, What do you see?"
--"I see Cars looking back at Me."
--"Cars, Cars, What do you see?"

So have fun with the melody and using words all around us to engage your little ones.
